Alterations, reimagined.

A marketplace of independent seamstresses, built on the belief that the corner tailor shop was overdue for a redesign: fairer pay, clearer quotes, and no sewing you into the schedule.

Move the craft forward by paying the hands that do it.

The problem we saw

Alterations, one of the most personal services in a person's life, is still delivered through a model built for 1975. Paper tickets, opaque pricing, long drop-off windows, and a generation of skilled seamstresses quietly aging out without a way to hand down the craft.

What we built

A marketplace where clients find independent seamstresses by specialty and location, with scheduling and payouts handled in one place, and the craft left exactly where it belongs: with the seamstress, in a studio of their own. The math works, on both sides of the needle.

From first clickto final fitting.

  1. Step 01 · Request & choose
    01

    Tell us what you need.

A short online form: the garment, your zip code, the date you need it by. Within 24 hours you see independent seamstresses nearby whose specialties fit, and you choose.

  2. Step 02 · Fitting
    02

    First fitting, written quote.

Meet your seamstress at the studio. Measurements are taken, the work is walked through, and you receive a final written quote, confirming any initial estimate from your appointment confirmation. Sewing begins only after you approve the quote.

  3. Step 03 · Craft & final fitting
    03

The craft, then a final try-on.

Your seamstress completes the alterations on the agreed timeline. Come back for a final fitting. Payment is one secure card charge, with a receipt for your records.

Same craft. Different system.

Five places where the incumbent model breaks down, and how Thimble answers each one.

A Google search, three tabs of star ratings, a drive across town to a strip-mall door that may or may not be open.

Finding a seamstress

Book online. You choose an independent seamstress whose specialty matches your garment.

Getting quoted

A verbal estimate mumbled over the counter. A receipt, sometimes. A surprise at pickup, often.

Getting quoted

An itemized written quote. An initial estimate with the appointment confirmation when possible; the final quote is typically confirmed at the first fitting, before sewing begins.

Wait time

Three weeks, minimum. Six during wedding season. No visibility into the queue you're sitting in.

Wait time

Set by the seamstress, visible up front. Appointments slot directly into their schedule, not a backlog you can't see.

Payment and transparency

Cash or personal check. Itemization on request. Tips awkwardly tucked under a pin cushion.

Payment and transparency

One card, charged only when the job is marked complete. You get a receipt for every charge. The fee structure is public.

The seamstress’s experience

A lease too big to carry. A storefront that owns the schedule. Marketing that was never part of the training. Hours that swallow the craft.

The seamstress’s experience

A studio of their own, at home or a professional space. A steady stream of nearby client requests. Direct deposit after each job. The craft, back at the center of the day.

The work, in numbers.

A seamstress within a short drive, in a growing list of cities.

Now serving 20 metro areas across the US, each served by independent seamstresses. Availability varies by city and season.

We expand deliberately. A new metro opens only when we've found the seamstress we'd send our own mother to.

The rules we don't break.

Every product decision at Thimble runs through these 5 lines. They're short on purpose. If a feature, a policy, or a partner can't make it past them, we don't ship it.

Fair pay for skilled work

The seamstress quotes the job and sets their own rates. We don't shave the margin to buy growth.

Clients choose

A garment that doesn't fit is a bad week for the person wearing it. Fit is between you and your seamstress, so you choose who you book and review the fit together at a final try-on.

Local, not logistical

No central warehouse. No shipping your wedding dress to a stranger in a different state. The seamstress is near you, on purpose.

Craft over speed

We will not promise a turnaround we can't deliver with care. If the timeline is short, we say so, or we say no.

Transparent by default

Itemized quotes. Published fee structure. No small print in the invoice. If you have to squint, we wrote it wrong.

Tailoring, close to home.

Pick your garment, your zip, and your week. You choose a seamstress, and they take it from there.
