Experience
01Hands-on experience in formalwear of some kind: bridal, prom, eveningwear, or suits. Comfortable with the construction, finishing, and measurement math behind a clean alteration.
Join a network of independent seamstresses who run their own studios, quote their own work, and spend their time on the craft, not the marketing.
Going solo means constant hustle: marketing, scheduling, chasing invoices, fielding tire-kickers on Instagram. Every hour spent on admin is an hour you're not at the machine.
On Thimble, we route nearby client requests to you by specialty and zip code. You see each one first and decide whether to accept. You stitch. We handle the rest.
Thimble clients come with real deadlines: getting married in six weeks, walking a red carpet on Friday, or standing up in front of a room. Their garments need to be right.
If you have solid formalwear experience, a clean studio space, and the confidence to work directly with clients in person, you'll feel at home here.
Comfortable with formalwear of any kind: weddings, proms, eveningwear, or suits. Confident in your specialty, whichever that is.
A clean, private fitting space, whether at home or a professional studio, with a mirror, good light, and room for a client to stand and turn.
You are the face of the appointment. Punctual, responsive, and calm with a nervous bride an hour before her final fitting.
A few consistent hours a week, evenings or weekends welcome. You choose which requests to accept, so you only take work you have time for.
Three steps, no interview. You can sign up tonight and start taking appointments once your identity is verified by our third-party provider and your profile is live.
A quick signup: name, contact, location, and the kind of work you specialize in. Takes a couple of minutes. No fees, no commitment.
Upload a government-issued ID and consent to a background check conducted by an independent third-party screening provider.
Add photos of your work, set your availability, and describe your specialty. Once your profile is published, clients near you can find your profile and book you.
You set every price and keep the majority of every booking. Thimble handles the rest, finding clients, payments, scheduling, and support, so you focus on the sewing, not the business.
You price every job on your terms. Thimble won't undercut you.
Typically 2 to 3 business days after completion, following a 48-hour review window.
Card processing is included in the platform fee.
Thimble augments your book. It doesn't replace it.
A quick self-check before you join. If most of these feel like you, the conversation will go fast.

A dedicated fitting space, whether at home or a professional studio. Room for a client to change, a full-length mirror, a dress form, and lighting good enough to spot a pulled seam. Private, clean, and professional.
Your own industrial or high-quality domestic machine, a serger, steamer or iron setup, pins and notions. Thimble does not provide the hardware. Your studio, your tools.
You respond to messages inside a day, show up on time, and run appointments with the same polish you'd expect from a good dentist. The work is half the job. How you hold the room is the other half.
I spent fifteen years running a small shop, answering my own phone, buying my own ads, and still ending up with slow weeks. Thimble fills the calendar. I finally know what's on the books two weeks out.
Earnings are variable and depend on your rates, hours, specialty, and local demand. You quote your own work. Thimble does not guarantee a specific income. The seamstresses who treat it as a dedicated business tend to see the strongest results.
You work as an independent contractor (1099). You run your own studio, whether that's a room at home or a professional space, set your own hours, and choose which appointments to accept. Thimble provides the platform, the clients, and the payment rails.
Not to join Thimble. You work as an independent contractor, so how you run your business is up to you. Some seamstresses carry liability insurance or register locally as they grow, but neither is required to start, and requirements vary by state and city. We're happy to share guidance during onboarding if you'd like it.
Thimble takes a flat percentage of each booked appointment. There is no surge cut, no hidden deduction, and no charge for declined requests. The fee covers client acquisition, scheduling, payment processing, and platform support.
Clients search by location and garment type, review profiles, and book the seamstress they choose. If a seamstress does not respond to a request, it may be offered to others nearby. You always see the request first, and you decide whether to accept it.
Yes. Thimble is designed to augment your book, not replace it. Your existing clients stay yours, off-platform, on whatever terms you already have with them.
Yes. You control your availability down to the day and the hour. Many seamstresses in the network start part-time around other work, then scale up as their book fills.
