Any dress, tailored to you.
Hems, take-ins, sleeves, and zippers by independent seamstresses near you. Everyday, work, or occasion dresses, pinned in person with the quote written before any sewing.
The dress you love, fitting the way it should.
A dress can be perfect everywhere but one place: a hem an inch too long, a waist that bags, a sleeve that bunches. Those are small jobs for a good seamstress, and they change how the whole dress wears. There is no reason to retire a dress you like over a fit you can fix.
Thimble connects you to an independent seamstress in your zip code who does exactly this work every week. You book a fitting, the dress is pinned on you, and a written quote lands in your account before anything is cut. Most dresses need one visit.

Voices from the evening gown column.
From my initial consultation to my last fitting, Ms Ash continued to blow me away. Every garment that I have handed her, came back to me fully transformed. It feels great to know that your one and done pieces can become timeless pieces and don't have to end up in a bucket in your closet , landfill, or Goodwill. She made the experience intentional and it's reflective in the clothing . Highly suggest booking with her. Her styling services have also exceeded my expectations. From photo shoots to events she never ceases to amaze me.
Dress alteration questions, answered.
-
How much does it cost to hem a dress?
A hem starts at $50. The exact price depends on the fabric and finish: a plain cotton hem is quick, while chiffon, lace, or a lined hem takes longer. Your seamstress writes the final quote at the fitting, before any work begins.
-
Can a dress be taken in if it is too big?
Yes. Taking in the waist, sides, or back is one of the most common alterations. How much can come in depends on the seam allowance, which your seamstress checks and explains at the fitting.
-
How long do dress alterations take?
Most dresses need a single fitting and a few days of work. Timing depends on the seamstress's schedule and the work involved, which you see when you book. If you have a date to hit, say so, and any rush fee is shown up front.
-
Can you take in a dress at the bust or add darts?
Yes. Bust adjustments, darts, and shaping are standard. Your seamstress pins the dress on you so the shaping follows your body, then writes the quote before sewing.
-
Do I need to know exactly what I want changed?
No. Bring the dress and wear it at the fitting. Your seamstress shows you what is possible, suggests what will help most, and quotes it before any decision is final. You approve the quote before any sewing begins.
