A suit that fits like it was made for you.
Jacket taper, sleeve and trouser work, and full take-ins by independent tailors near you. Pinned in person and quoted before any sewing.
Off the rack is a starting point, not a fit.
A suit is sold to fit a chest measurement and little else. The shoulders might be right while the jacket drowns the waist, the sleeves swallow the cuff, and the trousers pool at the shoe. Tailoring is what turns a boxy off-the-rack suit into one that looks made for your frame.
Search independent tailors in your zip code who do menswear and suiting, and book the one you choose. Your suit is pinned in person and the quote is written before any work begins. You approve it before any sewing starts. A clean jacket and trouser fit usually takes one fitting.

Greatest seamstress of my life. Worked really fast and her work is literally amazing, especially for the time it took.
Suit tailoring questions, answered.
-
What can be altered on a suit jacket?
The jacket can be taken in at the sides and back, the sleeves shortened, and the trousers hemmed and tapered. The shoulders and chest are the hardest to change, so a jacket that fits the shoulders is the right one to buy. Your tailor tells you at the fitting what is worth doing.
-
Can you take in a suit jacket that is too big?
Yes, the sides and back of a jacket come in cleanly within the seam allowance. Your tailor pins it on you and shows you the new shape before any sewing, and writes the quote first.
-
How much does it cost to tailor a suit?
A jacket taper starts at $60 and most trouser work starts at $50. A full jacket-and-trouser fit is several pieces of work, quoted together at the fitting. The final price reflects the actual work, and a 5% booking fee is added to the quote on your invoice.
-
Can you hem and taper dress trousers?
Yes. Hemming, plain or cuffed, and tapering the leg are standard. Wear your dress shoes to the fitting so the break sits right at the shoe.
-
How long does suit tailoring take?
Most suits need one fitting and a few days of work. If you have an event, say so when you book. Timing and any rush fee are shown before you commit.
-
Who does the tailoring?
An independent tailor near you who runs their own studio and works on suiting. You see their experience and reviews before booking.
